Has it now become acceptable to have no response to a job application?

This is a question which has come to light over the past few days as we are coming across candidates who have applied for roles but who have not received a response to their application.

Is this now the norm or do we have too higher expectations?  Most of the people we have spoken to think that some sort of response is only polite but a small number have said that this is just the way it is nowadays and is something that they accept.  Applying for jobs has moved on considerably in the last few years.  I remember when I started applying for roles a hand written letter was always required and David even had the great pleasure in presenting the one I wrote to him when applying initially to work at Southgate Consulting (many moons ago now!).

So with all of this in mind please do let us know your thoughts, we would love to hear them……
